This year, the Sports Administrator of the Year was announced in NRC. "It allows us to present a jury report with more depth—and this winner fully deserves it," said Marijn de Vries in NRC.
"With an impressive track record of nearly 20 years as the unpaid chairman of one of the most renowned associations in the Netherlands, he has made an exceptionally long-standing contribution to sports. However, the main reason for naming this man Sports Administrator of the Year may be best captured in his own words:
'The core of the Elfstedentocht is friendship, seeing how many people help each other and pitch in. That’s what we need in a time of increasing individualism and social tensions. Whether you're left-wing or right-wing, a doctor or a street cleaner, we are all equal on the ice and share the same goal.'"
