"Rode together with my father"
On February 18, 1985, the Elfstedentocht was announced. I, Jacob, 19, and my father Tjip, 52, were not members. I went to Leeuwarden with a friend and stood in the freezing cold all night outside.
When the doors opened, I bought two tickets. On Thursday, February 21, we took the train to Leeuwarden together. The start was at 7:00, and we arrived in Sneek. My brother Jan took pictures on the Westersingel. The day went smoothly, and at 8:00 p.m., father and son crossed the finish line together in Leeuwarden. How special is that! Cherish the memories.
