“From Workum onward on new skates”
1986. Left early. I was skating on Viking junior skates, which I had received at the end of high school (1962/1963). Before reaching Sneek, I had a nasty crack that bent the tip of my right skate. In Ijlst, I had the tip cut off and kept ploughing on until Workum. There, I bought new Ballangruds for fl.60. At the exit of the shop, there was a pair of second-hand Viking 1 skates. They fit like a glove. I got fl.10 back. I skated like a bullet toward Leeuwarden. Around 4:00 p.m, I got the last stamp. It turned out the Vikings were from 1953! It was a celebration.
