Commercialisation

The Koninklijke Vereniging De Friesche Elf Steden organises the Elfstedentocht without any sponsors or commercial activities. The event is fully organised by volunteers and is a unique occurrence in Fryslân and the Netherlands. The enthusiasm of all the volunteers and the relaxed atmosphere contribute significantly to its success. By keeping commercial interests at bay, the Association aims to maintain this special character. However, the Association may choose to accept offers of help, services, or materials that benefit the participants or the organisation. The Association, however, imposes certain conditions:

• The offer is not made from a commercial perspective, and the provider does not gain direct business profits from offering the products, help, or services.
• The Association has the final say in deciding whether to accept the offer.
• The contributions must be a meaningful addition to the organisation.
• The offered items or services must not give the impression that they are part of the Association or the organisation.
• The use of the Association's logo is not permitted.
• The Association will not publicize the offered help.
• No exclusive rights are granted.
• The offered contributions must provide added value for participants.
• All offers must be made in consultation with the Association and, if necessary, the relevant regional coordinator.

No commercial displays at 'hotspots'

The Association ensures that special Elfstedendoeken (banners) are hung at key locations (so-called 'hotspots') to prevent commercial displays in these areas. On the ice, only the following individuals are allowed:

• Participants in the event and competition
• Certain volunteers from the Association
• Certain media representatives who have explicitly received permission from the Association

Misuse of name and logo prohibited

The Association does not permit any organisation, company, or entity to suggest in any way that they are affiliated with the Elfstedentocht or its organisation through their communications. The use of the name and logo of the Koninklijke Vereniging De Friesche Elf Steden (including the cross medal) is strictly prohibited.
